It was not uncommon for Kida's tribe to give their especially talented young to slave traders and the Caledonian government in some under-the-table transactions and 8 year-old Kida found herself directly in the midst of one as she was thrown into the wagon and chained down. The tribe had faced some financially trying times and a near-prodigious healer and fledgling elemental mage would bring in enough money to make ends meet. The village chief and little girl's parents looked onward sadly as they watched their daughter be sold into slavery - but at least they knew she would likely be taken care of.
Ten Years Later
Kida waited anxiously as the Sclabhai graduates were lined up on stage, the thick curtain providing them with their only protection from the crowds of people behind it, ready to bid on Kida and the other women. Kida shifts, her clothes nearly falling away as she composes herself. The girls are scantily dressed in as little as possible - their clothes obviously ready to be torn off by assistants if the crowd wanted to see them naked - in very sparing versions of traditional Aeyostan Silks and a few pieces of jewelry. Kida listens to the auctioneer hyping the crowd before she cringes at the sudden invasion of light as the curtains part, signalling the beginning of the auction...
Notes:
- I intentionally left most of Kida's backstory ambiguous so that she could be bought by another character if desired.
- When I mentioned how she could use low-level elemental magic, consider it to be similar to how Clerics and Mages in D&D can use varying types of magic - just not to the extent of their specialization
