I was also working on a galaxy map for that other sci-fi setting I mentioned in my other thread. I am reusing the techniques I used there to pitch another version of the galaxy map on the wix site: Galactic Map v1My main reason for proposing this map version is that I think a radial coordinate system makes more sense than a grid for a galaxy. I opted to make the nations 'blocky' under the assumption that these polities would be drawing up treaties with each other that defined boundaries by means of a common coordinate system, so the understood territories end up conforming to major sector divisions. I suppose the winding white paths deserve some explanation! The concept there is that there are major travel routes in the galaxy where FTL travel is far easier and faster than in other areas. Generally (but not exclusively) these coincide with the spines of the galactic arms.

New version! At Wolf's request I initiated a galactic redesign with an eye towards filling up the map and breaking away from the fairly rigid quadrant divisions. I've thrown in a few new nations...obviously I've not given these too much thought, but I do have some ideas for some of them at least. All of this of course is up for debate. Current to-do's include giving the map a proper key among the many further touch-ups that are sure to come. Galaxy Map v2

Version 3 has arrived! Due to a misunderstanding concerning instructions given for v2, version 3 has reverted to political boundaries much closer to v1. TO DO's: pirates, ancient stuff, worlds I've also completed a writeup for how to do coordinate references on the map:
